Registration for this race will open for a week, with a lottery system used to select entrants. The race kicks off at the entrance of the canyon and covers 17 miles through Canyon De Chelly, showcasing ancient ruins, petroglyphs, and pictographs on the way to Spider Rock. Runners will ascend Bat Canyon Trail, gaining 1,200 feet in elevation to reach the Spider Rock overlook before returning. The terrain is varied, featuring sand, single-track paths, and creek crossings that present unique challenges. Although the vertical gain is minimal, the sandy first and last 2.5 miles simulate strenuous climbs, creating an exciting experience throughout the course.
