Experience North Alabama's inaugural 100-mile and 100K races at the picturesque Wheeler Wildlife Refuge, renowned for its diverse migratory bird population. Established in 1938, the refuge is not only a seasonal haven for thousands of waterfowl but also home to the endangered whooping crane. Participants can look forward to encounters with great blue herons throughout the race. Runners will navigate soft crushed gravel and dirt roads, beginning with a 3.4-mile loop followed by five loops of 19.4 miles each. An ample aid system ensures hydration with stations spaced between 4.5 to 5.4 miles throughout the course, contributing to a challenging yet scenic experience. Portions of the race proceeds will assist the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Association in their conservation efforts.
