This ultramarathon commemorates the anniversary of Hurricane Helene, which left a profound impact on Bakersville’s landscape. Participants can walk or run for a full 8 hours along a course marked by the remnants of the storm’s destruction. The event offers participants the flexibility of not being tied to a specific distance, emphasizing personal achievement amid the scenic devastation. Runners will have ample access to food and hydration at the start line, encouraging crew support in the designated parking area. Spectators are welcome, and all participants will receive a long-sleeved cotton t-shirt and a medal, ensuring that even those who walk for an hour feel celebrated in their efforts. All proceeds will benefit the Mitchell County Parks and Recreation Department for park and playground restoration.
