The Vol-State ultramarathon is a unique adventure that transcends the typical race experience. Participants embark on a remarkable journey that starts with a ferry crossing the Mississippi River, leading them through 314 miles of diverse terrain from Missouri to the peak of Sand Mountain in Northeast Georgia. Throughout this odyssey, runners navigate highways, backroads, hills, and valleys while fully depending on their physical and mental fortitude. Over the course of four to ten days, competitors grapple with the intense heat and humidity typical of July in Tennessee. They must strategically plan their journey, contemplating essential needs like food, water, and rest as they traverse the unpredictable landscapes, making this race a true test of endurance and self-reliance.
