The Coalfields Backyard Ultra is a challenging Bronze Ticket race serving as a qualifier for the World Backyard Ultra Championship, marking the first event of its kind in West Virginia. Set at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, runners will tackle a 4.1667-mile out-and-back loop, with participants required to complete laps every hour. This race follows the "Last Runner Standing" format, where endurance is key, as such events can extend for three days or longer.
