The **BADWATER® ultra running experience** presents the **BADWATER SALTON SEA**, an exceptionally challenging 81-mile course that traverses the striking landscapes of Southern California’s deserts and mountains. Teams of two to three ultrarunners race together, tackling the journey from Salton City, which lies 234 feet below sea level, to Palomar Mountain, ascending to 5,500 feet elevation. The route includes a mix of road and eight miles of rugged single track through Anza-Borrego State Park, featuring over 9,000 feet of elevation gain. This arduous race is considered one of the toughest ultramarathons, with participants facing extreme temperatures that soar above 100°F during the day and plunge to freezing at night. The race demands extensive preparation, especially for the steep desert trails encountered without immediate support, and participants must manage electrolyte balance diligently. The unique team format requires runners to complete the distance as a cohesive unit, promoting camaraderie and shared experience. Participants are encouraged to select teammates with compatible running styles and paces to enhance their chances of completing the race together. This event not only challenges physical endurance but also emphasizes teamwork, making it an unforgettable ultrarunning adventure.
