The race commences at Whitetop, launching participants onto a scenic 9.8-mile downhill stretch along the Virginia Creeper Trail, leading to the first aid station at Taylors Valley. This segment boasts stunning views of the national forest, making it a breathtaking start. Following Taylors Valley, runners continue downhill for another 6.9 miles to Damascus, before heading towards Alvarado, where stories of a whimsical broken Pepsi machine add a touch of charm. After the Alvarado aid station, athletes push onward to Abingdon Station, the endpoint of the Virginia Creeper Trail. Here, 55k runners will finish at Wolf Hills Brewery, while 50-mile runners will turn back towards Watagua and then return to Abingdon before completing their journey at the brewery. This race provides thrilling downhill sections, making it both exhilarating and enjoyable for long-distance enthusiasts.
